Christmas Market

A Christmas market, is a street market associated with the celebration of Christmas during the four weeks of Advent. These markets originated in Germany but are now being held in many other countries. The history of Christmas markets goes back to 1434. The Christmas markets of Bautzen, Frankfurt and Munich were even older. The Vienna "December market" was a kind of forerunner of the Christmas market and dates back to 1294

In southern Germany and Austria it is sometimes called a "Christkindlmarkt" (German languaje literally meaning "Christ child market"). Generally held in the town square and adjacent pedestrian zones, the market sells food, drink, and seasonal items from open-air stalls, accompanied by traditional singing and dancing. On opening nights (and in some towns more often) onlookers welcome the ‘Christkind’, or boy Jesus, acted out by a local child.

Popular attractions at the market include the Nativity Scene, Zwetschgenmännle (figures made of decorated dried plums),Nussknacker (carved Nutcrackers), Gebrannte Mandeln (candied, toasted almonds), traditional Christmas cookies such as Lebkuchen and Magenbrot(both forms of soft gingerbread) . Many other handmade items, toys, books, Christmas tree decorations and ornaments (and in recent years less useful gadgets) can be found at a Christmas Market.

         

Traditional German cuisine

German cuisine has evolved as a national cuisine through centuries of social and political change with variations from region to region. The southern regions of Germany, including Bavaria and neighbouring Swabia, share many dishes. Furthermore, across the border in Austria, one will find many similar dishes.


Are lots of diferent types of food:

Meat
Pork, beef, and poultry are the main varieties of meat consumed in Germany, with pork being the most popular. The average person in Germany will consume up to 61 kg of meat in a year Among poultry, chicken is most common, although duck. Specially boar, rabbit, and venison are also widely available all year round.

Desserts

A wide variety of cakes are served throughout the country, most commonly made with fresh fruit. Apples, strawberries, and cherries are used regularly in cakes. Black Forest cake is probably the most well-known example of a wide variety of typically German cakes.A pretzel is a type of baked food made from dough in soft and hard varieties and savory or sweet flavors in a unique knot-like shape, originating in Germany. Pretzels in stick form may also be called pretzels in the English-speaking context. For seasoning and decoration various glazes, salt crystals, sugar and various seeds or nuts can be used.




Beer
Beer is a major part of German culture.There are lots of diferent styles of  beer, like, wheat beers, pale beers, dark beers and unfiltered beers

MTV European Music Awards Frankfurt 2012

Heidi Klum presented last Sunday the MTV Eurpean Music Awards in Frankfurt, Germany

Sudenly the night converted in a circus whith acrobatic people, full of fireworks, etc.

Psy, the korean music group was dancing an singing their famous song : 'Gagnam Style'. Psy won the best videoclip award. They were super happy and nervous.

The bests were the younger groups that won a lot of awards.

Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift were the super stars!

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest party.

The Oktoberfest´s history started in 1810, when the people invited other people to a picnic to celebrate the wedding of the prince Ludwig of Baviera and the princess Teresa of Sachsen-Hildburghausen.

Then this celebration became to a yearly fair it inclued horses, and a beer party.

Local employers that worked in local brewery creates the first massive beer shop in 1896.

At the moment this party celebrates in the same place.
